TechTip - Selecting the Optimun Tool for Closed Captioning Insertion
Closed Caption Insertion Tools
PixelTools’ Closed Captioning technology provides accurate captioning in full compliance with broadcast technology standards. The technology is utilized in several different products. Each of the products is optimized for specific tasks.
Our two most popular for tools for creating captioned video:
Expert-Caption
Stand alone application that rapidly and easily inserts captions into existing MPEG and AVC streams.
Expert Broadcast
PlugIn to Adobe Premiere that encodes MPEG content from the time line and embeds closed captioning into the stream during export.
If your content is being edited in Adobe Premiere and needs to be encoded to MPEG, Expert-Broadcast will provide a single step process for encoding and captioning. The PixelTools MPEG encoder is a very high quality encoder and includes great flexibility for optimizing encoding. The captioning, stored in .scc files, is embedded into the MPEG stream during encoding in compliance with broadcast standards.
If your content is already edited and encoded into MPEG or AVC, Expert-Caption quickly and easily embeds closed captioning in compliance with broadcast specifications. The application also includes a wide variety of captioning processing, analysis, and debugging features. Captions can be extracted or removed from a stream, edited, and added to another stream, possibly of a different format. The tool decodes streams and accurately displays CEA-608 and/or CEA-708 captions on their correct locations for stream verification. The tool can extract the raw captioning from streams in order to assist in the debugging of closed caption errors.
Other PixelTools closed captioning tools include:
MPEGRepairHD
Stand alone application that can encode and caption content as well as insert captions in existing MPEG and AVC video
ExpertHD
Stand alone application that includes the encode capability of MPEGRepairHD
Expert-Workshop
SDK that includes all of the capability of MPEGRepairHD and is accessed using C language calls.
